Trip Fee Now Included on Taxi Meter from San Diego Airport

by admin on July 14, 2012

The Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) which regulates San Diego taxi companies recently allowed a controversial airport trip fee to be included on the fare meter for taxi trips from the San Diego International Airport.  For approximately the last 2 years, riders were asked to pay for an airport surcharge which was not included in the taxicab meter and may have caused confusion among many airport travelers.

The trip fee was first implemented on August 1, 2010 at a total cost of $0.50 for each taxi ride from Lindbergh Field.  The trip fees are used to help pay for ground transportation maintenance at the SAN Airport.  In July, 2011 the trip fee doubled to $1.00 and increased to $1.50 on July 1, 2012.  This fee is scheduled to increase to $2.00 in 2013.

MTS decided to include the airport trip fee to the meter after the San Diego Airport agreed to take on any liability from lawsuits challenging the airport trip fees.
