City Council recently voted to approve new taxi rates for Seattle taxicab companies.  The fare increase is scheduled to take effect 30 days after it’s approval by the mayor.  The last meter increase was in October 2008.

The airport flat rate will increase 25% from $32 to $40 for taxi trips from the downtown hotel district to the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.  Flat rates are not offered for taxi trips from Seatac Airport to the hotel district and is calculated by the meter rate.

The downtown hotel district is defined as: Broad St to Mercer St to I-5 on the north, Elliot Bay on the west, South Dearborn St on the south, and Boren Ave, to the I-5 Freeway and then the Freeway on the east.

City Council voted to increase the taxi fares saying “the increase is needed to pay for workers compensation insurance that is now required by the state for taxi drivers.”

New Seattle Taxi Rates:
The meter mileage rate will increase 8% from $2.50 to $2.70 per mile.

- Flag Drop:  $2.50
- Distance:  $2.70 per mile (1/9 increments).
- Wait-Time & Traffic Delay:  $30 per hour.
