The SunLine Services Group (SSG) board recently approved a decrease in the taxi regulatory surcharge fee imposed by the SunLine Regulatory Administration (SRA) which is responsible for regulating Coachella Valley taxi companies. The SRA Surcharge will decrease $0.45 or 60% from $0.75 to $0.30 starting August 1, 2012. The fee is added to the meter for all taxi trips originating with in the Coachella Valley.
The surcharge is collected by the areas three franchise taxicab companies and is submitted to SRA on a monthly basis. The SRA Surcharge helps to offset the cost of regulating taxis in Coachella Valley.
According to C. Mikel Oglesby, General Manager of the Sunline Transit Agency, the surcharge fee was reduced due to a surplus of revenues with in the taxi regulatory unit as a result of streamlined business practices by the SRA and to a growing ridership of the local taxi industry.
Maximum Meter Rates for Coachella Valley Taxi Companies
The SunLine Regulatory Administration sets the maximum rates charged by the competing Coachella Valley taxicab companies. Taxi rates may vary among the franchise operators.
