Seattle Area Drivers Form New Taxi Association

The Western Washington Taxi Cab Operators Association was recently launched by Seattle- area taxi drivers.  The new taxi association has teamed up with the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT) and plans to contract with Teamsters Local 117 to lobby gov’t on its behalf.  The Teamsters Local 117 represents more than 16,000 employees with in the state of Washington.

There are approximately 2,000 taxicab drivers in the Seattle area, many of which operate as independent contractors for the competing Seattle taxi companies.

The new taxicab association plans to address excessive liability and insurance coverage fees and to lobby the state to enforce existing regulations governing ground transportation companies.
