The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) recently ruled that taxicab drivers for BWI Taxi Management Inc should be classified as employees not as independent contractors. BWI Taxi was recently awarded a five year exclusive contract with the Baltimore-Washington Intl Thurgood Marshall Airport to provide walk-up taxi service from the BWI Airport.
According to John Singleton, an attorney representing BWI Taxi drivers, the NLRB decision could complicate the BWI taxi contract which stipulated that BWI taxicab drivers were contractors.
BWI Taxi Management plans to appeal the NLRB ruling.
