Under the latest proposal, the D.C. Taxicab Commission recently proposed not to discard the per-passenger surcharge. Currently, all D.C. taxis charge a surcharge of $1.50 for each additional passenger after the first rider for all taxis.
The per-passenger surcharge would only apply to passengers which ride in DC taxicab vans.
A per-bag surcharge will also remain in effect. Currently DC taxicab drivers charge $0.50 for each bag beyond the first. The new proposal allows for $0.50 surcharge for each individual piece of luggage.
As stated in the previous proposal, the meter distance rate will increase from $1.50 to $2.16 per mile and the wait-time & traffic delay rate will increase from $15.00 to $25.00 per hour.
The new meter rates are scheduled to go in effect after a minimum of a 30-day comment period ends.
