City Council Approves Late-Night Surcharge for Austin Taxis

by admin on February 5, 2012

City Council recently approved a $1.00 per passenger surcharge for late-night Austin taxi rides.  The extra fee applies to all rides from the hours of 9:00pm to 4:00am.

The new taxicab ordinance is scheduled to take effect on February 13, 2012.

City Council passed the new ordinance in order to address the shortage of taxis late at night during high demand periods.  According to Yellow Cab, only 60% of their drivers choose to work at night.
