A 3rd District Judge recently issued a Temporary Restraining Order against the Salt Lake City Department of Airports which recently awarded exclusive contracts to provide walk-up taxi service from the SLC Airport. Ace Taxi Service and Total Transit were both awarded contracts.
Legal action was initiated by Yellow Cab of Salt Lake City which currently has a contract with the SLC Airport to provide on-demand taxi service. The Temporary Restraining Order is scheduled to expire on November 7, 2011.
The judge is also scheduled to hear arguments about granting a preliminary injunction on November 7th which would put on hold the airport’s plans for new taxi services until trial.
According to the city attorney, the city may be subject to damage claims of up to $80,000 by the awarded taxi companies if the SLC Airport does not implement the new airport taxi contracts on Nov 28, 2011.
The airport taxi contracts were awarded based on a rating scale. Scores ranged from 0 to 100. The highest average scored companies were awarded contracts.
