San Diego Airport Implements New Trip Fee For Taxi Service

by transreviews on September 2, 2010

The San Diego Airport recently adopted a new trip fee for taxi service originating at the SAN Airport.  A trip charge of $0.50 was implemented on August 1, 2010 in order to help the airport pay for expenses associated with administering taxi services at the airport.  Due to pending legislation, the trip fee is currently charged separately from the meter rate.  The separate fee has caused confusion among the traveling public.

The Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) Taxicab Administration is responsible for regulating San Diego taxi companies and is also responsible for establishing the meter rate from the airport.  A proposal by San Diego Airport to add the airport trip fee to the meter was refused by Metropolitan Transit System without approval from the city of San Diego.

Taxi Rates From San Diego Airport
- Flag Drop: $2.50
- Distance Charge: $2.70 per mile
- Wait Time and Traffic Delay: $22 per hour
- Airport Fee: $0.50*

*Starting July 1, 2011 the airport fee will increase to $1.00
